A Town Built in Two Waves — And Two Kinds of Roofs

Green Level didn't grow the way most Piedmont towns did. It started as Ruby Dew, a small tobacco-farming community in eastern Alamance County, and the first schoolhouse built there in 1934 is still standing — it later became the town's original Town Hall. Growth came later and in one big push: in the 1960s, landowner Ben Mebane sold off much of his property to developers, who put up the affordable single-family homes that still make up most of the town's older streets. Green Level didn't even incorporate as its own municipality until July 17, 1990.

That history matters for roofing, because it means Green Level isn't one housing stock — it's two, separated by decades. We work on original 1960s-70s homes that have likely been re-roofed once or twice already, and we work on the newer construction in Bedford Hills, the subdivision between NC-49 North and Mebane Rogers Road that added more than 200 homes on quarter-acre lots when it was completed in 2019. Those two groups of homeowners are usually calling us for very different reasons.

What We're Actually Seeing on Green Level Roofs

Original-Stock Homes Nearing Their Second or Third Roof

A large share of Green Level's housing dates to the 1960s development boom, which means plenty of these roofs are on their second or even third roofing system by now. We regularly find deteriorated underlayment, worn pipe boots, and flashing that was adequate decades ago but was never upgraded through later repairs. For homeowners in this position, we recommend a full inspection before committing to roof replacement or a targeted roof repair — patch jobs on a roof this age often cost more over time than doing it right once.

Bedford Hills and Newer Construction

Homes in Bedford Hills are still inside their first roofing cycle, generally builder-grade shingle systems installed since 2019. These roofs are usually sound, but builder-grade materials and standard installation don't always account for wind uplift the way a heavier-duty shingle does. When Bedford Hills homeowners call us, it's typically after a storm — a handful of lifted or torn shingles rather than a system that's failing outright. Our storm damage roof repair crews handle these quickly, since a small area of exposed decking left alone turns into a much bigger repair.

Piedmont Storm Exposure

Eastern Alamance County sits in the same thunderstorm and hail corridor as the rest of the Piedmont Triad, and Green Level gets its share of spring and summer storm cells moving through. Because the town's newer streets and its original streets react differently to wind and hail — older three-tab and architectural shingles versus newer builder-grade systems — we tailor our hail damage roof inspections to the specific roofing system on your house rather than a one-size checklist.

Serving All of Green Level

Green Level is a small town — about 1.4 square miles and just over 3,150 residents — but it has real community infrastructure behind it. Green Level Municipal Park is the hub, with its koi-fish fountain, ADA-approved playground, basketball courts, a football field, and a volleyball pit, plus plans in motion to add a gymnasium and convert the old horseshoe pit into a pickleball court. Because the town runs its own water and sewer system inside its corporate limits, growth here has been more deliberate than in unincorporated parts of the county — which is part of why Bedford Hills and the older in-town streets can look so different from each other despite being a few minutes apart.

We work both sides of town, plus the surrounding Alamance County area toward Mebane, Graham, and Haw River for homeowners just outside Green Level's limits.

Roofing Services in Green Level

Roof Replacement

Full roof replacement for homes reaching the end of their roofing life, using GAF Timberline HDZ and CertainTeed Landmark / Landmark PRO shingle systems — an upgrade in wind resistance over what much of Green Level's older housing stock currently has.

Roof Repair

Roof repair for isolated leaks, storm-damaged sections, and flashing failures, plus emergency roof repair when it can't wait for a scheduled visit.

Gutter Systems

Gutter cleaning and installation to keep water moving away from foundations — relevant on both the older, tree-shaded lots downtown and the newer quarter-acre lots in Bedford Hills.

Leak Detection

Roof leak detection to find the actual entry point on a roof, rather than guessing — especially useful on older homes where a leak's source is rarely where the stain shows up indoors.

Why Green Level Homeowners Choose Arthur's Roofing

We've been roofing in this trade since 1992 — longer than Green Level has been its own incorporated town. That means we're not guessing at what a 1960s Green Level roof looks like today, and we're not treating a five-year-old Bedford Hills roof the same way. We tell you what we actually find, recommend the repair or replacement that matches your specific roof's age and history, and don't upsell a full tear-off when a repair will hold.
